What’s new? Home Design Trend Forecast 2009……

Trends for 2009 will reflect a tuning point in color and style! One of the freshest themes in home design will be one we refer to as “Glacier Crystals”. We will see more frosty finishes, metallic accents, and ice cube shapes both in pattern and lighting. Clusters of glass squares will be prominent.

A back to basics look that is all about eco consciousness and quality craftsmanship will take a lead as well. Many of the designer fabric houses will be offering eco friendly fabrics and trims to choose from. With the world changing we see a re-newed sense of responsibility that we all can be part of!   More natural and neutral colors will be used on walls with bold accents making the impact.  Stone, organic material, cork, bamboo, and organic shapes will be prominent but with a contemporary edge. And keep that old sofa…old reclaimed furniture is the “new thing”…spice it up and give it a fresh look! Hand-made artisan objects will be admired. We will see a caravan of bold patterns inspired by rural Russia, as well as a revival of eastern folk art patterns of Asian tea canisters and bold vine patterns.

With the emphasis on the environment Out-door living is gaining importance, and we are seeing more exquisite choices to wet the appetite! Sleek out door furniture, softer and more novelty fabric will be offered, along with many unique lighting options .Fabric trends will tend toward tropical “bights”, and playful retro designs with a touch of vintage. Vivid tangerines, lime, lemon, aqua and fuchsia, as well as nature inspired patterns and colors will be important.

A revival of traditional style with a twist will also take front stage. Historic versions of centuries old color. A returning importance of the color purple; with plum and mustard pairing up to be a dominate palette. Unexpected materials, intense color and bold patterns add a fresh and new look to many traditional pieces in 2009!

Porcelain pales will surface with “lemon Mist” taking the spotlight. These pastels will be more saturated in color than in the past. The hottest combination will be lemon mist combined with greens and grays.

Lilacs and mauves look fresh in 2009 and will lead the way in county looks and themes.

Soft contemporary feels dated this year, but a “Graphic Artist” style contemporary with a crisper, more angular look will lead the way with more squares, rectangles, and circles with hard edges and clean lines. We will see a resurgence of color blocking with bright colors playing off black.

Ahhh…and then some fun…A psychedelic nostalgic interest in printed fabrics from the 60’s and early 70’s. Colors are bright and bold, patterns of posy flowers, pop art and mini florals will be seen.

2009 will be a mélange’ of different eco-friendly, cultural and period influences that will intrigue the eye. Don’t be afraid to mix a touch contemporary with the traditional. It will give it a fresh look with a twist that will be sure to delight the eye!!
